Injustice by Giotto, Equestrian Portrait of Margarita of Austria by Velazquez
"Contemporary Old Master" was an assignment from my Visual Communication class. We were asked to tear out a picture from two books. One from a collection of Giotto's works and one from a collection of Goya's works.

This assignment was also given to several other classes, all of whom got it before my class. Pickings were slim, most of the pictures had already been torn out. Additionally, the books contained references to other artists and their works. This is how I ended up with a painting by Diego Velazquez instead of a painting by Goya.
"Injustice"
Inspired by Giotto and Schoolhouse Rock!, animated in Flash CS6, then monkeyed with in Premiere Pro. I wanted to try my hand at some squat, funny-looking characters that you might see dancing to Bob Dorough's music.
Trying for an older, VHS-esque quality, I used the Flash extension, Boiler, to create some subtle variations in the line work and I used Premiere Pro to add grain.
"Equestrian Portrait of Margarita of Austria"
Like the previous interpretation, this was also inspired by Schoolhouse Rock! In Tyrannosaurus Debt, Alexander Hamilton is drawn with fantastically cartoony hands. I wanted to capture some of that same cartoony hand-magic in this drawing.
